Children are loved at Mt. Hollywood Congregational Church. At Mt. Hollywood we teach children to love by the example we set. We seek to treat children in a way that shows God’s love for them and inspires them to love others. We believe that listening to children is vital to an adult’s spiritual growth. When children speak, we listen. We strive to create a space in which children feel safe to explore and express their faith. …and a little child shall lead them. We believe the African proverb “It takes a whole village to raise a child.” We seek to be a supportive community for children and their families as we celebrate with each other and stand together through challenges. Babies and Toddlers Sunday School Sunday Mornings During the Worship Service (10:30am) Babies and Children in this class hear short, age-appropriate Bible stories, are sung to, and cared for by our wonderful volunteers. Baptism and Dedication May Be Scheduled with the Pastor Mt. Hollywood Congregational Church gladly welcomes babies into our family through baptism in a ceremony reflecting the family’s commitment to raise the child in this faith community and the community’s commitment to support the child and his or her family. For Children Age 4 through 8th Grade Godly Play Sunday Morning During the Worship Service (10:30am) Mt. Hollywood provides Godly Play for children age 4 and up. This is a creative, playful, multi-age learning environment inspired by the Montessori educational approach. ”I wonder” is commonly heard in this room and children respond to stories through self- selected creative projects. Confirmation Check with the Church for Upcoming Dates Mt. Hollywood provides a deeply meaningful, 40- day journey for children in grades 4-8. This class is offered every few years during the season of Lent. Children are invited to authentically and respectfully explore various faith traditions, learn about the United Church of Christ and Mt. Hollywood Congregational Church, and reflect on their own faith through active play, reading, writing, and weekly field trips.
